Victoria Beckham
Every year I curse my northern roots, and the fact I also have to work – meaning I can’t hit up NYC or LDN for fashion weeks. This season has been no exception. New York Fashion Week showcased many designers presenting a seamlessly monochrome theme. My favourites being; VB & AW (of course!).
Victoria Beckham has mothered her label over the past six years into a sophistication. The full collection mirrors her elegance and definite precision. Burgundy two-pieces, pink rose camouflage and sleeveless jackets gave a edgy, yet confident, extremely feminine business-woman vibe. VB also revealed she had taken over Manolo Blahnik’s role and designed the (seriously impressive) shoes for the collection herself.
Alexander Wang’s collection was much anticipated, the king of sporty-luxe style used sneakers as inspiration for this collection.
“Sneakers for me, have always been part of my uniform”
“Its something that’s iconic in my generation – you know, a cult of sneakers. So I thought, ‘why not take the sneaker and apply it to clothes?’ Take whats most recognisable – the colour, waves or the patterning or the way that the sneaker reflects personality, you know, and put it in different gangs of girls.”
And this translated beautifully into his collection. Nike Flyknits were re-created into electric-hued body-con dresses, and Adidas’ Classics [white and green stan smith] became sporty and sexy tennis ensembles.
Whilst the majority of the collection was made up of mini-dresses, Wang has created a new trouser silhouette for spring in mind. High-waisted, slim-leg, teamed with cami tops and satin jackets.
With girls now catching the boys up with their sneaker-game I suspect Wang’s work will be filtered down into the high street, or at least fingers crossed.
Fashion week soon to hit London…
